  6. Blood sample for infectious disease tests - Qualification.

Blood samples of potential deceased donors for tissues and cells are taken to minimise the risk of transmitting infectious diseases to other recipients.Collection of the blood samples for testing are taken no longer than 24 hours after death and it is recognised the volume of blood, colloids and crystolloids infused prior to death may affect the test results. A standardised formula (e.g. Europe, USA) is available in this healthcare sector to determine the acceptability of a blood sample for infectious marker testing, when infusions have taken place. The algorithm is based on values related to blood volume, plasma volume and…

  7. Initiating and Adjusting Insulin in Diabetes Mellitus 2

It would be great if MedCalc had the formula for initiating insulin, based on weight, and adjusting insulin, based on fasting glucose and current insulin units. There's already an app for that, but the formulas are public. Instead of having two apps, we could have only one app!
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/insulin-dosing-algorithm/id323628068?mt=8 this is the link for that FREE app.

  11. Plasma aldosterone / renin activity ratio

Aldosterone-to-renin ratio (ARR) is the mass concentration of aldosterone divided by the plasma renin activity in blood plasma. The aldosterone/renin ratio is recommended as screening tool for primary hyperaldosteronism.[1]

  13. GAP prognostic index for IPF

This article has a calculator that allows physicians to calculate expected prognosis in IPF. Generally clinicians quote a median survival of 3 years for all of their patients at the time of diagnosis. This paper clearly allows us to stratify patients into 3 groups with very different prognoses. However the calculation is somewhat cumbersome and without a "medcalc" option, clinicians are likely to avoid doing the calculation and therefore prevent patients with this devastating disease from getting a more accurate prognosis.
